Construction commenced in May 1794 at both ends of the Peak Forest Canal and at the same time the first stone was laid for the foundations of the Marple “Grand Aqueduct”.
The flight of 16 locks at Marple is a spectacular sight today, and it is one of the steepest flights in Britain. The locks were mostly built with large blocks of stone and in the woods alongside the flight, a number of blocks can be found, hidden by undergrowth as they are once again reclaimed by nature.
With the beautiful countryside around Marple Aqueduct a 20 minute walk up the towpath to the top of the flight, it makes a wonderful place to explore.
Every piece we create tells a story and fades into white, leaving the viewer with the impression of a world outside the scene, and a story yet to be told. In fact every piece comes to you with a story about it with an accompanying card with your wall art or on the reverse of the greetings card.
Each print takes many hours to produce, using layers, masks, overlay, textures and creative techniques to produce a fine art piece you will be proud to have in your home. We do not use automated processes of any sort.
