The Swing bridge on the Peak Forest Canal – Every Turn of the Peak Forest Canal is a delight. The views are breath-taking, and although you are within easy access to civilisation, you feel you are truly in a different world.

Originally built to transport Limestone from Bugsworth Basin to Ashton under Lyne, in its heyday it was a busy industrial route. Today however, it is a peaceful, pretty route winding its way along the contours of the countryside heading to Marple and on towards Manchester.

On this stretch of canal you will find four bridges which require opening manually if you are a boater: Two swing bridges and two lift bridges. This swing bridge is at the entrance to Furness Vale Marina, an attractive marina which is home to around 100 boats.
